Crossville First Free Will Baptist Church began as a mission of
the Tennessee State and National Free Will Baptist Associations. The
church held its first services in October 1972 in a rented building
on Neecham Street. Rev. Joe England was the first pastor, and 15
people attended the first service. God added His blessings, souls
were saved and the congregation grew.
In 1973, the church bought a tract of land on Old Rockwood Road, now
East First Street, and built the basement of the present church.
Services were held there in the spring of 1974. The church was
officially recognized on May 21, 1978, and Bro. Delmer McCowan was
called to lead the congregation in January 1979.
Services were held in the next sanctuary in June 1980, and that
sanctuary served the congregation for 25 years. The gymnasium was
added in 1994, and the sanctuary was expanded in 1996. Bro. Delmer
resigned the church in January 2002, and Bro. Mike McCoy was called
to be the pastor. He preached his first sermon as pastor in February
2002.
As the body of believers grows and more souls are added to the
kingdom, Crossville First Free Will Baptist Church has grown as a
building as well. On June 12, 2005, we held our first services in
the new sanctuary. May God continue to bless, and may His people
continue to heed the Holy Spirit and grow in grace and knowledge.
And, most of all, may we see many, many more souls saved by the
blood of Jesus Christ. God bless our church family and this new
chapter in our history!
